Are your teeth fully-functioning and structurally sound, but you feel you need to upgrade your smile’s appearance? Porcelain veneers may be the ultimate answer to your cosmetic dentistry woes. Consisting of a very thin sheet of porcelain, veneers offer a way to improve the aesthetic look of your teeth without any complete replacement. As an alternative to crowns, veneers are custom made to the shape, size and color of your natural teeth. Veneers may also be suitable to correct minor bite problems.
Reasons to Consider Veneers
- Cosmetic uniformity
- Crooked or misshapen teeth
- Discolored or stained teeth
- Teeth that are too small or too large
- Uneven spacing throughout the mouth
- Worn or chipped teeth
The goal of employing veneers is to recreate the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience. The application takes two visits to Dr. Walton’s Columbus office and requires little to no anaesthesia. The process begins with shaping and lightly buffing the teeth to prepare adequate space for the veneers. An impression is then taken and a color/shade selected so the veneers can be designed to the patient’s exact specifications. Once the veneers arrive, the patient’s teeth are cleansed with a special liquid to allow for bonding. Cement is placed between the tooth and veneer. It is hardened with a light beam to permanently adhere and set the bond. Before the patient leaves, Dr. Walton will make sure to discuss care instructions, including a typical brushing, flossing and dentist visit routine.
